2/19/2024 0 Comments Dragon swim school![]() ![]() The year-round program offers group and private swimming and diving lessons to the Fargo-Moorhead community and surrounding area. Wavrin will also coordinate the Dragon summer swimming and diving camps and direct the Dragon Swim School. In addition to coaching with MSUM over the past two years, Wavrin taught at Park Christian High School in Moorhead. She has been a part-time assistant with the Dragons for two seasons and spent a season with the Des Moines YMCA Summer Team. She earned Dragon Hardest Worker award three straight seasons and graduated with honors in May of 2003. Wavrin still holds two individual school records and was part of two school record relays and one pool record relay. ![]() “Christina’s six years of swimming and coaching experience with the Dragons have given her the opportunity to watch the program grow and be a part of one of the most successful swimming and diving programs in the region.” “Christina is excited to give back to the university that helped her achieve her goals, and to stay active in a program that prides itself in forging lasting friendships,” said MSUM head coach Todd Peters. She was an honors graduate at both Montevideo High and MSU Moorhead, and participated in basketball, softball, speech, and Drama at MHS. She also placed ninth in the 100-yard breaststroke two years in a row at the Minnesota State High School Championships. Wavrin was a standout swimmer for the Monte Swim Club and Montevideo High School and a two-year conference champion in the 100-yard breaststroke. This grant furthers the NCAA and MSUM commitment towards achieving the standards set by Title IX legislation. The position was created after receiving a two-year NCAA grant developed to encourage the creation of new full-time coaching positions in under-represented sports. Christina Wavrin, one of Minnesota State University Moorhead’s most decorated swimmers, becomes the first full-time assistant coach for the Dragon Swimming and Diving program. ![]()
